I’m sitting here at the computer reading My Bloglines and glancing out the window. I’ve had about enough looking at snow and experiencing the chilly weather that goes with it. About the only good thing about the cool temps is when the “hot flash” hits it’s easy to cool down quickly.
I’m watching Tom’s bird-feeder. Finally some birds have discovered that he is putting out seed. He’s seen a grossbeak and I’ve seen chickadee’s . Yes, there have been blue jays and crows, and 1 owl, but they don’t really count. Not when you are looking for a sign, any sign, of spring. OK, chickadees are probably around all the time, but I love them. They remind me of when I was little and visiting my Grandmother in Vermont.
While sitting here the squirrels are out there eating everything in sight. Now I’ve watched this particular grey squirrel many times. But I just love it when he (she?) does this one thing. Tries to climb the pole to the top of the Squirrel Proof Bird-feeder. He checks out the pole, sniffs it, looks it up and down. Decides to try to climb it. Jumps onto the pole, and (this is the best part) slides down the pole. He does this a couple of times. It’s really hard to not laugh out loud. Finally he gets on top of the feeder just to step on the bar that closes the feeder. It’s amazing to see how many times they will try this. My personal favorite is the expression on his face as he slides down the pole. Tom has the binoculars right here so that you can get a really close look at them. They truly are natures clowns.
Knitting? This is a knitting blog? Oh yeah, now I remember.
I’m up to row 87 on my Charlotte. And yesterday my Dream In Color Classy arrived from The Loopy Ewe. They are so great at getting the fiber to you quickly. And I love the little gifts enclosed. So I have my yarn for a sweater. Now I have to swatch and then try to stay focused and finish the darn thing! I think I don’t finish projects because I want to always have something on the needles. The job takes so very much out of me that it’s nice to be able to sit down and just knit. Not have to think about what project to start. Not have to read directions before starting. By the time I can sit down thinking is the last thing I want to do.
Tom’s been busy this week. He’s a funeral director so it’s hard to hope that business will pick up. But he’s really good at his job and I feel he helps the families cop with the loss. He is a very caring and compassionate person. He’s covering for a local funeral home while the owner is away for a week. So last night I was on my own. Thank goodness for frozen dinners or I’d be eating cereal all the time.
Well I have to go into work (on a Saturday, I hate it). So time to shower, get dressed, and drive to town. Oh Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy! I need to knit.

My dad has an ongoing and sometimes brutal war going on with the squirrels. He thinks he is winning. He is not. But, I am not going to be the one to tell him that since he is now armed with a paintball gun…
I love chickadee’s too mom. I can remember sitting on my rock, by my tree and singing chick-a-deeedeeedee along with them.
